Common Sense, Common Ground: An Approach to Affordable Eco Design
Is it possible to be both environmentally and fiscally responsible? Look to the National Wildlife Federation® (NWF) headquarters for an answer. In fact, the building earned recognition as one of the “greenest” buildings in the nation – yet it cost less to construct than non-eco-friendly projects of similar scope!

Sabre
The Teknion Factor
In accordance with LEED guidelines, Sabre asked Teknion to certify that its products and processes incorporate recycled content and meet accepted standards for forest conservation. Teknion also demonstrated how its furniture could help Sabre address worker health and productivity issues integral to green building. “Basically, Sabre gave us a blank page,” says Donna Palon, Teknion’s Architecture and Design Market Manager. “We were encouraged to talk directly to employees to find out what they needed, and then we were charged to devise LEED-friendly means of satisfying them.” So, for example, Teknion helped configure open plan workstation layouts that optimize daylight and provide 90% of all employees with standing vision of a window. (This is one of the many factors evaluated by LEED).
